Freshwater Shrimp Buying and Care FAQs
Before you add livestock, get clear answers about locally bred shrimp, tank readiness, Toronto pickup, and GTA delivery.
Where can I buy cherry shrimp in Toronto?
Rare Shrimps Canada offers locally bred Neocaridina—commonly called cherry shrimp—through this Toronto catalogue. Ordering is opening soon, with scheduled pickup and GTA local courier delivery available once stock is released.
Are Neocaridina and cherry shrimp the same?
Cherry shrimp is the common hobby name for Neocaridina davidi. Bloody Mary, Blue Diamond, Orange Sunkist, Blue Jelly, Black Rose, and Snowball are selectively bred Neocaridina colour lines with different appearances.
Do you sell locally bred shrimp?
Yes. Our Neocaridina colonies are bred locally in Toronto water rather than imported as finished stock. Current source-water parameters are confirmed before hand-off.
What water parameters do your Toronto-bred shrimp live in?
Source-water parameters are recorded by colony and confirmed before hand-off. Your own aquarium should be cycled and stable, and its temperature, pH, GH, KH, and TDS should be compared with the current source water before acclimation.
When is pickup?
After reviewing a pickup request, the owner calls the customer to agree on a time. The order is confirmed only after that time is scheduled, and meeting details are shared privately.
When does the store open?
The catalogue is currently open for preview, but ordering is not available yet. Join the opening list to receive the opening announcement and coupon.
Can I pay by e-Transfer?
No. Card customers pay securely through Stripe during checkout. Discounted cash remains available only for scheduled pickup.
Is my tank ready?
A cycled tank should show zero ammonia and nitrite, stable temperature, and water parameters appropriate to the selected shrimp. Mature grazing surfaces are a meaningful advantage.
Can I mix shrimp colours?
Different Neocaridina colours can breed together and their offspring may revert toward wild-type colouration. Keep one colour line if visual consistency matters.
Can shrimp live with fish?
Yes—shrimp can do well with peaceful community fish. Choose small, calm species and provide plenty of moss, plants, and rock cover. Even gentle fish may investigate tiny shrimplets, so expect a little more risk than in a shrimp-only tank.
Where do you ship?
We currently ship only within the GTA using a local courier, with plans to expand. GTA shipping is a flat $9.99, and it is free when the product subtotal is more than $100.00. The fee is calculated automatically at checkout; card payment happens through Stripe before the owner reviews and confirms fulfillment.
Are catalogue images the exact animals I will receive?
Livestock and plant images are representative because colour, pattern, size, and natural form vary. We verify current stock and quantity during the confirmation review. If we cannot accept a paid order, we issue a full refund.
